Program

We plan to have one presentation and one data session.

1. Augustin Lefebvre (University of Paris III: Sorbonne Nouvelle)
gThe practice of Aikido: spatio-embodied methods for organizing interactionh

From video recordings filmed in an aikido dojo in Tokyo, I will first propose a description of the organization of interaction between two advanced practitioners. I will focus on the utilization of spatio-embodied methods by which a practitioner can forecast the next action of his partner and make accountable his own role (tori / uke).

Then I will present a short extract in which an advanced practitioner explains a ewazaf to a beginner by using his body and verbal resources.

2. Eric Hauser (The University of Electro-Communications, Tokyo)
gData session: Excerpt from a student discussion in English as a foreign languageh

The data come from a 20-minute student discussion video-recorded by the students as an assignment for their English class. The four participants are first-year university students. Their proficiency in English is fairly limited, but they nevertheless try to use English throughout the discussion

If anybody is interested in bringing their own data, analyses, observations, arguments, or whatever, to a next meeting to discuss together, please contact Aug Nishizaka at augnish(a)soc.meijigakuin.ac.jp.
